Our story

About us

The Copper Kettle opened its doors in 2019 with one idea: a café that treats tea as seriously as coffee, and cake as seriously as both.

We are a small team of five, led by founders Priya and Tom, who left careers in catering and accountancy (you can guess who did which) to open the café they always wished existed in Hitchin.

Everything sweet is baked in our own kitchen each morning. The menu changes with the seasons, and the specials board changes with whatever the market had that week.

We roast nothing ourselves, and that is deliberate. Our beans come from a Hertfordshire roastery that does one thing brilliantly, and our loose leaf teas are blended for us in small batches.

Whether you are here for a quick takeaway flat white or a long Sunday afternoon with the papers, you are welcome to stay as long as you like. No laptops at the window seats at weekends, though. Those are for watching the world go by.
